I found this gem at a local thrift store while doing my weekend rounds. This $3 DVD player was in rough shape but to my surprise, it worked great! Had a few dents plus I knew working on a DVD player this old would not be so easy. But with a $3 price tag I couldn't pass it up. I got home, did some testing, and soon confirmed the player was in good enough condition to open up and proceed.
I looked up the video processing IC on the device and found the schematic.
I then traced the IC legs to the port it connected to and snipped the wires.
First I connected my Xbox to the IC to check if I can input any video to the screen. And I was sucessful!
After having sucess with that I wanted to connect my USB to VGA cable to the device to output my PC to the DVD player screen. I looked up the USB to VGA wires to confirm the connection and soldered the cables together. Again I was sucessful and got the DVD player to be an external monitor.
Now I had a very useless external monitor for my PC but it looked cool!
